March 19, 2015 — Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets Inc. has issued a recall for Natural Grocers Organic Garlic Powder because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.
No illnesses have been reported. The recall is a precautionary measure that was taken after the company was notified of a positive Salmonella tests on a product from a supplier that was re-packaged under the Natural Grocers brand.
Earlier this week, Frontier Co-Op issued a nationwide recall for dozens of products containing organic garlic powder. The products were sold under the Frontier, Simply Organic, and Whole Foods brands.
Natural Grocers is recalling products that were sold in clear plastic bags, noting Julian pack on dates and pricing per pound. The product was sold in size ranges of 0.25-0.30 pounds. Recalled lots include:
- 61-15, 40-15, 20-15, 351-14, 006-15, 316-14, 329-14, 288-14, 301-14, 275-14, 267-14, 252-14, 237-14
Only packages bearing the Julian packed on dates listed above are subject to recall.
Products were sold in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
According to the recall notice:
“Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.”
