Guava Roam Strollers Recalled for Brake Failure Hazard

On November 7, 2024, the California-based stroller company Guava Family announced a recall for about 8,500 Guava Roam Strollers after hundreds of reports of brake failures, which could pose a dangerous safety hazard if the stroller rolls away with a child inside.

Were Any Children Injured?

No injuries were reported in the recall, but the safety risks include “fall and injury hazards to children.” Guava Family received 67 reports of the brake-lock disengaging after being set. There were also 152 reports of the brake pedal not engaging when it was pushed down.

What is the Risk?

The strollers could roll away if the brakes release unexpectedly after being set, or fail to engage when a parent or caregiver tries to set the brake.

The stroller could crash, children could fall out, suffer serious injuries or death. If the brakes fail when a parent is too far away to stop the stroller, it could roll down a hill or into traffic, for example.

What Should I Do?

Parents and caregivers should immediately stop using your Guava Roam stroller and check the label to see if it is part of the recall.

Look for a black label on the cross-bar below the seat. It will read “Guava Family Inc.,” Model Name: Roam, Model No. 2205000, and date of manufacture (“Date of Mfg”). Click here to look at a picture of where to find the label.

The recall only involves “first-generation” Guava Roam strollers that have a manufacturing date between July 2020 and December 2021.

They were sold online at www.guavafamily.com and www.babylist.com from August 2020 through October 2023 for between $500 and $550.

How To Fix Your Stroller

If your Guava Roam stroller was recalled, do not use it until it is repaired. You can register to get a free repair kit at: https://www.guavafamily.com/pages/stroller-recall.

The repair will consist of the “Roam Frame Assembly Kit,” which will contain the stroller frame, seat unit & seat pad, and stroller canopy. To repair your stroller, you must remove the rear wheels from your current stroller and assemble them to the new frame assembly kit.
