December 13, 2024 — Tristar Products has been sued by a woman from Minnesota who was burned by an Emeril Lagasse Pressure Air Fryer Plus.
The lawsuit was filed by Amber D., a 35-year-old resident of Grand Rapids, Minnesota who was burned on December 22, 2020.
According to the lawsuit, she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” as a result of opening the lid on her pressure cooker when it was still pressurized, which ejected scalding-hot food onto her body.
She blames her injuries on the failure of the safety features, which failed to lock the lid and prevent her from opening it until it was safe.
The incident involved an Emeril Lagasse Pressure AirFryer Plus (Model Number Y6D-AF-36B), which was advertised to contain safety features, including a “safety lock lid,” a “positive pressure mechanism,” and a “lid positioning sensor,” the lawsuit claims.
Her lawsuit claims the “safety mechanisms are intended to prevent the unit from building pressure if the lid is not closed properly, as well as to prevent the lid from opening until all pressure is released.”
Instead, she claims that Tristar Products knew (or should have known) that the safety features can fail to lock the lid as advertised, which poses a “significant risk of bodily harm and injury to its consumers.”
Her lawsuit was filed on December 3, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:24-cv-04354.
