January 30, 2025 — People have been severely burned by heated socks that were sold on Amazon.com when defective lithium batteries caught on fire, sparked, exploded, malfunctioned, or overheated.
In October 2024, a Safety Warning was issued for WOTOTIC and Ackpair Heated Socks that were linked to 4 fires and 3 burn injuries due to the lithium-polymer battery.
Safety officials warned that the heated socks had defective batteries that caused multiple reports of “sparking or malfunctioning, all of which resulted in burn injuries, including 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns.”
The warning involves WOTOTIC and Ackpair Heated Socks (Model Number HS101), which are gray socks made of 100% cotton.
They were sold Amazon.com, Backcountryoutdoor.com and Snapklik.com from September 2023 through October 2024 for around $13 to $83.
Unfortunately, no refund or other remedy is available for consumers because the China-based manufacturer, a company called “ZHOngshanshihuiyuemaoyiyouxiangongsi,” did not respond to request for information about this product or agree to a recall, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
