August 28, 2024 — IKEA has recalled thousands of power banks that can overheat and catch on fire.
The recall involves about 1,600 VARMFRONT power banks that were sold at IKEA stores nationwide.
The problems is that the lithium-ion battery inside the power banks can overheat, which poses a fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries. No injuries were reported, but 3 incidents were reported globally.
IKEA is recalling two models: IKEA VARMFRONT Power Banks with model numbers E2037 and E2038.
These models have one of the following date codes (YYWW): 2313, 2316, 2318, 2319. The model number is listed at the top of the back side of the power banks, and date code is printed on the bottom of the back side of the power banks, according to the recall.
IKEA is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled power banks and return them to any IKEA store for a free replacement product or a full refund. No receipt is necessary for a refund.
