May 22, 2019 — ION Audio, LLC, recalled about 41,000 portable speakers due to an explosion and injury hazard.
ION Audio recalled the speakers after 5 explosions were reported, including 4 that resulted in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
The recall was issued because hydrogen gas can leak from the portable speaker battery when it is charging and explode, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
ION Audio urges consumers to immediately stop using the speaker and contact them for a refund in the form of an ION Audio gift card.
The recalled models include the Sport Express, Cornerstone, Cornerstone Glow, and Keystone. The products can be identified by a UPC number located on the bottom of the speakers.
