2018 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Recall
In December 2018, Ford recalled approximately 35,000 model-year 2018 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs with second-row center bench seats because the seats may be missing J-channel reinforcement brackets in the seat track assembly.
Both of the recalled vehicles were built at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant, carrying build dates between March 14, 2017 and Aug. 18, 2018.
What is the problem?
The recalled vehicles with 2nd-row bench seats might not have certain reinforcement brackets in the track assembly for the seats. In a car accident, the lack of reinforcement brackets increases the injury risk.
What is the Safety Risk?
A seat track missing one or both J-channel reinforcement brackets may not properly restrain the seat assembly during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
What is the Fix?
Owners will need to bring their car into a dealership for a free inspection. Dealers will check the seats to determine if both of the J-channel brackets are installed. If any of the brackets are missing, dealers will replace the center seat frame assembly for free.
What Should I Do in the Meantime?
Until the vehicle can be inspected or repaired, owners should move the seat back to its farthest position away from the front of the vehicle.
Where Can I Get More Information?
For more information, owners can contact Ford at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their VIN and learn more.
