SmartBell Dumbbells Recalled for Weight Plates Falling Off

In March 2025, Tzumi Electronics (manufacturer of FitRx® products) issued a voluntary recall for SmartBell XL Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells that were sold on Walmart.com because the weight plates can fall off during use, which poses a risk of impact injuries.

What Happened?

SmartBell XL Dumbbells were recalled after “more than 60 reports of the weight plates dislodging during use, which have been linked to at least 7 injuries, including bruises, contusions and abrasions.”

What is the Risk?

FitRx warned that the weight plates “can fall from the dumbbell handles during use, potentially hitting users during their workouts. This issue may result in injury, especially if the weight plates detach suddenly and unexpectedly and make contact with a user.”

The recall involves about 12,400 FitRx SmartBell XL Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells (10-90 lbs.) with the following information:

• Manufacturing Date/Batch Number: KK23289034
• UPC Code: 841351190343
• “FitRx” is printed on the storage tray and on the dumbbell handles.
• Sold exclusively on Walmart.com from September 2023 through June 2024

What Are Adjustable Dumbbells?

FitRx SmartBell XL Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells are workout products for home gyms. The dumbbells adjust from 10 to 90 pounds, in 5-pound increments, by turning the handle to the desired weight and lifting the handle out of the tray. The weight plates are supposed to automatically lock onto the handle when the weight is selected.
