LG Electric Ranges Linked to 28 Fires, Burn Injuries & Pet Deaths

In February 2025, LG recalled 500,000 electric ranges after 28 fires started when people or pets accidentally hit the knobs on the front.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission received 86 reports of the ranges turning on from accidental contact by people or pets, warning:

“At least five fires caused extensive property damage totaling over $340,000. At least eight minor injuries have been reported, including burns, and there have been reports of three fires involving pet deaths.”

What is the Risk?

LG Electric Stoves that accidentally turn on pose a serious, life-threatening fire hazard. The risk is especially serious if children or pets turn on the knobs, resulting in tragic deaths in a house fire.

Some of these serious risks include:

  • Burn injuries
  • Death to people, children, or pets
  • House fires
  • Property damage
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Scarring and disfigurement from burn injuries
  • Hospitalization for burn treatment
  • And more

LG Offers Free Sticker — But No Refund or Exchange

LG is not offering a refund or exchange for 500,000 electric stoves that have been linked to dozens of house fires. Instead, LG is offering a free sticker that consumers must put on their ranges. This sticker will remind people about a “Control Lock” feature to deactivate the knobs.

How To Identify Recalled LG Electric Ranges

The recall involves LG Slide-In Ranges, and LG Freestanding Ranges with front-mounted knobs. They were sold at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, other appliance stores nationwide and online.

Depending upon the model, the ranges were sold from 2015 through January 2025 for between $1,400 and $2,650.

You can check if your LG Electric Range is being recalled by visiting the recall website: https://lgecares.com/rangerecall/. You can enter the Model / Serial Number, which can be found on a label that may be inside the oven door, or in the drawer on the bottom of the oven.

Lawsuits Claim LG Knew About Knob Fire Hazard

LG has also been hit by complaints and class action lawsuits, including one lawsuit that was filed in New Jersey by a man who said he was eating dinner when he smelled smoke. He ran into his kitchen to find a paper bag next to his LG Electric Range on fire.

The lawsuit claims that front-mounted knobs can turn on too easily, which poses a fire hazard, and LG has known about the problem for years — but failed to issue a recall or warn unsuspecting consumers about the risk.
