In November 2018, Yokohama Tire Corp. recalled one size of RY023 truck tires due to a tread separation hazard. These tires may have been manufactured with an out-of-spec undertread compound and may separate in service.

Yokohama Tire Recall
November 28, 2018 — Yokohama Tire Corporation (Yokohama) recalled certain Yokohama RY023 tires, size 295/75R22.5 (14G), that have DOT date code 2318. The recall involves approximately 529 tires for commercial trucks and vehicles.
What is the Problem?
The recalled tires may have been produced with an improperly manufactured rubber compound. The rubber adhesion may be inadequate, which could result in separation of the tread from the casing.
If a tread separation occurs when the vehicle is in use, there may be a loss of vehicle control, according to the NHTSA:
“If the tread separates, the driver may experience a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.”
What Should I Do?
Yokohama will replace the recalled tires at no charge to consumers. Yokohama has notified owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the tires, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 29, 2018. Owners may contact Yokohama customer service at 1-800-722-9888.
