April 9, 2021 — Around 2.5 million mobile hotspots from Verizon were recalled after reports of the batteries overheating, resulting in fires and burn injuries.
The mobile hotspot recall was announced after 15 reports of the lithium-ion batteries overheating or catching on fire.
There were 6 reports of fires that caused property damage to bedding or flooring. Two people suffered minor burns.
The recalled hotspot devices were sold nationwide at Verizon stores, other stores, and school districts (where they may have been provided to students to enable remote learning) and online at www.verizon.com from April 2017 through March 2021 for $50 to $150.
The recalled hotspots are labeled with “Verizon” printed under the digital display window. The charger also has a sticker on the wire that reads: “Compatible: FWC MHS900L, Model: FWCR900TVL, DC151030.”
